Will the meeting of Saudi Arabia and Houthis stop the destruction of Yemen

After enduring eight years of the Saudi-led war against the Iran-backed Houthis, which overthrew the regime on September 21, 2014, Riyadh rushed towards the Houthis, in a disgraceful disappointed of more than 30 million people who have borne the consequences of this war, on the promise of its allies whom it left behind to support them until a decisive victory.

"The initial indications of the visit of the Saudi ambassador to Yemen and his accompanying delegation to the capital, Sana'a, indicate that it is nothing but enabling the Houthis to secure the fate of more than 30 million people and aggravates their agony and jeopardize their futures after 8 years of war". Political analysts told Khabar Agency.

However, military analysts see that the initial indications about what Riyadh is trying to do in Yemen has nothing to do with politics. "In politics, dialogues precede military operations, not the other way around".

Is it unconditional surrender, or is it the hidden intentions to replace the Republic of Yemen, with militias and sectarian rivalries?

This question, which is repeated by millions, is answered by analysts as: "The second option is the closest", based on the field, military and economic gains achieved by the Houthis during the eight years of war, in addition to the effects of the war economically, socially and culturally on millions of citizens, after Houthis brought them to a state of begging for stability from the belligerents.

"Riyadh and the Houthis want the continuation of the conflict in Yemen, to ensure that they continue to control decision-making". analysts say.

What Riyadh wants?

The real question for millions of Yemenis remains: "What exactly Riyadh is after? Riyadh has not yet resolved the disparities that exist within the members of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, which sponsored the announcement of its formation on April 7, 2022. The choice of its formation in that month is not arbitrary, as it did not achieve even a small part of what the declaration matrix promised, and yet it left it aside and isolated it from all its consultations and meetings with the Houthis.

The same neutrality was shown by the Houthi through their negotiating team, which met the Saudi ambassador and his accompanying delegation, as well as the Omani mediation delegation, when they limited it to people from their dynastic leaders only. This common denominator of Saada and Riyadh brings to mind the denominator of starvation, siege and destruction for eight years.

What is the fate of the country and the allies of Saudi Arabia, in light of the recent understandings, and will the Houthi, which consider themself the right to power (according to their concept), accept their partners in ruling Yemen?

Early Disappointed

Yemeni human rights activists reminded Riyadh that its launch of the military "Decisive Storm" on March 26, 2015, as part of a broad military, economic and diplomatic operation, came in support of the liberation of the capital, Sana'a, and the restoration of the republican system.

The Yemenis endured the land, sea and air embargo imposed by the Coalition on the entire country, desiring to get rid of the militia, which punished them for this steadfastness with more penalties and restrictions, when they opened the doors of more than 110 detention centers, according to international reports.

The Houthis also refused to pay employees’ salaries, imposed semi-weekly levies and royalties, introduced parallel laws and institutions, and legitimized for itself the plundering of citizens’ wealth and money under the name of "Zakat, one-fifth… etc".
