Iran-backed Houthis set up additional prisons in Hodeidah

The Iran-backed Houthis have set up additional prisons and detention centers in the city of Hodeidah (western Yemen), with the aim of accommodating more numbers of new abductees.

Human rights sources said that the militia established additional prisons belonging to the so-called Houthi "Preventive Security" located behind the Criminal Investigation Building in the city of Hodeidah, in order to accommodate more abductees, forcibly hidden persons, and dissidents.

This came after the prisons of the Houthi "Security and Intelligence Service" prisons were filled with large numbers of prisoners and abductees. The sources added.

A report issued by the Yemeni Organization for Prisoners and Abductees earlier confirmed that the Houthis run 639 prisons, including 230 official prisons and 298 secret ones, in addition to the establishment of 111 private prisons located in the basements of government institutions such as military sites, and others located in civilian buildings such as ministries and public administrations.

According to the report, Sana'a ranked first with 110 prisons, followed by Ibb governorate with 91, then Hodeidah governorate with 78, and the rest were distributed among the rest of the governorates.
