Mother of Two Dies After Surgery in Marib; Family Demands Investigation

A 35-year-old mother of two has died following a surgical procedure at the Dr. Ibtehal Medical Center in Marib, prompting her family and media outlets to call for an official investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.

The deceased's uncle, journalist Abdulsalam Mohammed, stated that his niece entered the center for what was described as a simple operation. He noted that the procedure lasted only 20 minutes, after which the family was informed she remained under anesthesia.

Mohammed added that the family waited for hours without any improvement in her condition. Subsequently, the center requested her transfer to Al-Heia Hospital in Marib, citing a lack of an intensive care unit, according to him. Doctors at the hospital informed the family upon arrival that the patient had died some time prior.

This revelation has led the family of the deceased to demand an investigation into the causes of death and the medical procedures administered during and after the surgery. They have formally requested the Ministry of Public Health and Population and relevant authorities to form an independent medical and legal committee to investigate the incident, review the procedures at the center, and hold any party found negligent accountable under the law.

The administration of the medical center has not yet issued an official statement regarding the family's account. This incident occurs amidst growing calls to enhance oversight of private medical facilities, ensuring their adherence to necessary standards and equipment for handling emergencies and safeguarding patient safety.
