Explosions Near Tanker in Strait of Hormuz; Crew Safe
Two explosions occurred near an oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz off the coast of Oman early Thursday, with the vessel and its crew confirmed to be safe, according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).
The incident took place approximately nine nautical miles southeast of the Omani city of Qumzar, the UKMTO reported.
No environmental damage has been reported as a result of the incident.
This event occurs amidst heightened maritime tensions in the region, with recent Houthi attacks in the Gulf of Aden and affirmations from four regional parties regarding the importance of waterway security in the Bab al-Mandab strait.
