Yemeni Security Forces Kill Islamic State Spokesperson in Seiyun Operation

Yemeni state security forces, in coordination with the Saudi-led Coalition, successfully neutralized the spokesperson for the Islamic State, known as Abu Hudhayfah al-Ansari, during a tactical operation in the city of Seiyun, Hadhramaut Governorate.

The operation, conducted at dawn on September 1, 2026, involved the joint special forces of the Coalition and the Yemeni counter-terrorism unit known as Force 22. According to an official statement, the mission was the result of sustained intelligence sharing and strategic coordination between the Yemeni Central State Security Agency and the Coalition command.

Authorities confirmed that al-Ansari was located within a residential dwelling alongside eight civilians, including five children and two women. Security forces successfully evacuated the civilians to a secure location, ensuring they remained unharmed throughout the engagement. One additional individual present at the scene offered resistance before being wounded, apprehended, and subsequently provided with medical attention by security personnel.

Following the raid, forensic teams secured the site and recovered significant evidence, including a suicide vest that was neutralized on-site to prevent potential harm to the local population. Investigators also seized two laptops, five mobile phones, and two tablet devices, all of which have been processed for further intelligence analysis.

The Yemeni Central State Security Agency commended the precision of the special forces, noting that the operation was executed with strict adherence to civilian protection protocols and the mitigation of collateral damage in the densely populated area. The agency reiterated its commitment to the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign, emphasizing that Yemen will not serve as a sanctuary for extremist elements and pledging continued cooperation with international partners to ensure regional security.
