Joint Forces Repel Houthi Infiltration Attempts in Al-Dhale' Governorate

Intense clashes erupted early Wednesday between Yemen’s Joint Forces and government troops against Iranian-backed Houthi militia fighters across multiple fronts in the northern and northwestern regions of Al-Dhale' Governorate.

Military sources reported that the Joint Forces engaged Houthi units attempting to infiltrate defensive positions in the Battar, Al-Mashareeh, and Al-Thukhab sectors of Qatabah District, as well as areas bordering Al-Husha District. The skirmishes involved the use of various medium and heavy weaponry as both sides exchanged fire throughout the morning.

These confrontations followed a series of similar engagements late Tuesday on the Maris front, north of Qatabah. Government forces and the Joint Forces successfully repelled a Houthi offensive before launching a counter-attack targeting militia positions in the vicinity. Concurrently, military officials confirmed that government aircraft conducted strikes against Houthi reinforcements in the Juban District, though specific details regarding the extent of the damage remain unconfirmed.

The recent escalation underscores a broader trend of increased military activity by the Houthi militia, which is attempting to secure territorial gains and regain tactical momentum. The militia is currently facing significant military pressure across several fronts, including the West Coast, Al-Bayda, and Al-Jawf, as government and coalition forces utilize a combination of ground assaults, aerial support, and drone operations to counter Houthi movements.

Yemen has been embroiled in a protracted conflict since the Houthi militia seized control of the capital, Sana’a, in late 2014. While the overall intensity of the fighting has fluctuated compared to the initial years of the war, frontline flashpoints remain active across several governorates, with the current surge in Al-Dhale' highlighting the fragility of the status quo in the region.
