Ahmed Ali Abdullah Saleh Calls for National Unity on 63rd Anniversary of October 14 Revolution

Ahmed Ali Abdullah Saleh, Vice President of the General People's Congress, has issued a formal address to the Yemeni people on the 63rd anniversary of the October 14 Revolution, emphasizing the urgent need for national unity and the consolidation of military forces to restore the state and preserve national sovereignty.

In his statement, Saleh honored the sacrifices of the revolutionaries who paved the way for Yemen’s independence and dignity. He noted that the anniversary serves as a critical juncture for self-reflection and corrective action, urging political and military factions to transcend narrow interests. He argued that the restoration of the state is unattainable under current conditions of fragmentation, asserting that a unified national command is essential to confront the Houthi movement.

Saleh stressed that the establishment of a professional, disciplined national army loyal to the Republic is a non-negotiable priority. He called for a courageous assessment of recent setbacks on the front lines, advocating for improved strategic planning, competent leadership, and a unified decision-making process. He warned that relying on slogans rather than effective governance and military cohesion would only prolong the conflict and exacerbate the suffering of the Yemeni people.

Addressing internal challenges, Saleh cautioned against regionalist and separatist rhetoric, which he claimed only benefits adversarial forces by weakening the domestic front. He advocated for addressing grievances through justice, partnership, and the rule of law rather than exclusion. Furthermore, he urged political and military leaders to abandon partisan quotas and personal loyalties in favor of a collective commitment to restoring state institutions.

The statement also highlighted the importance of regional cooperation, specifically with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and neighboring nations, to address shared security threats. Saleh concluded by affirming that the true legacy of the October 14 Revolution lies in the pursuit of a free, sovereign, and unified Yemen, urging all factions to prioritize the national interest as they work toward ending the current crisis.
