Media Rights Watchdog Urges Urgent Aid for 117 Displaced Journalists from Al-Mukha

The Media Freedoms Observatory in Yemen, known as "Marsadak," has issued an urgent appeal to the international community and humanitarian organizations to provide immediate assistance to 117 journalists and media workers displaced from Al-Mukha and its surrounding areas.

In a briefing detailing the humanitarian and living conditions of the displaced professionals, the organization reported that the exodus occurred throughout September, triggered by rapid military developments and the entry of Houthi militants into the region. The group of displaced individuals includes 15 journalists, photographers, and media contributors who operate either independently or in affiliation with various media outlets.

The Observatory documented severe violations that forced these individuals to abandon their homes. Many journalists fled under extreme duress to avoid potential abduction, while reports have confirmed that the residences of several media professionals were stormed and looted. These incidents have resulted in the total loss of personal property, housing, and primary sources of income for those affected.

Concluding its statement, the Media Freedoms Observatory called upon international donors and humanitarian agencies to mobilize a comprehensive support package. The requested aid includes temporary financial assistance, secure housing, psychological support, and the provision of essential equipment, which would enable these media workers to resume their professional duties in a safe and stable environment.
